12 more COMANCO team members successfully complete Water Safety Training

July’s Water Safety Training held in Bartow, FL was a success with all twelve COMANCO crew members passing with flying colors. The all-day training started in the classroom with the basics of water safety and then moved outside where our equipment operators ran through real-life scenarios and learned how to safely retrieve another person from the water, use their life vests, assist others in making it to shore, survive in the water for extended periods and much more. Some of the training was conducted in full work gear, to help the trainees get a glimpse of what a water accident would feel like. At the end of class wrap-up, many of the participants said they would make sure to double up on their water safety awareness and preparedness after having gotten a taste of it. Others said their confidence was much higher now that they’d be able to survive a water accident since they knew the proper safety steps to take. Thank you to the STC instructors and Moretrench for their excellent safety program. More employees will be undergoing this training in the months to come.

CF Industries serves up lunch at COMANCO to benefit charity

John Doran, Frank Buzzanca, Tommy Hill and Terry Stutts from CF Industries set up shop in the COMANCO Plant City office parking lot on Monday, June 7 to serve up some prime, grade A lunch to COMANCO employees. This tasty treat was part of the annual “Kiss the Pig” fundraiser held by Read Lakeland, a non-profit that promotes adult and family literacy.

More than fifty employees were able to attend, including some of our hard-working crew members. The CF chefs were unanimously praised for their impressive grill skills as everyone ‘pigged’ out on steak, gator bites, potatoes, salads and more. Everyone at COMANCO really enjoyed the treat – both the food, and the opportunity to hang out with some of our favorite people from CF – especially in support of such a great cause.

COMANCO team gets together for a celebratory Rays game

COMANCO held its first quarter review meeting April 27-28 at the Plant City headquarters. All our off-site project managers flew in for the event as managers and representatives of all departments gathered to review the past few months worth of projects. Each team presented sucesses and challenges, as well as goals for the upcoming quarter and rest of the year. Lively discussion abounded as members of all teams made suggestions on efficiency, safety and communication practices. Afterwards everyone headed out to Tropicana Field for field-level seats to the Tampa Bay Rays vs Oakland Athletics game. Project managers and office staff were joined by as many local Superintendents and field employees as could make it. COMANCO provided buses to and from the jobsites and the office so that everyone could make it out, enjoy the evening and still get home safely. Despite PM Brian Libby's insistence on wearing full Red Sox gear, our hometown Rays handily defeated the A's much to the delight of the many COMANCO fans.
