Over fifty operators, superintendents, project managers and project engineers came into the Plant City office for Heavy Equipment Safety & Maintenance Training on Tuesday, Oct 19 2010. They were split into groups and rotated through classroom and hands-on learning focused on the proper care and maintenance for various machines as well as safety protocol and how to recover in the case of an emergency. The day was broken up by a catered BBQ luncheon for our hard-working employees.

Thank you to all of our great business partners that helped sponsor last night’s Florida Phosphate Committee of Continuous Existence’s (FPCCE) 10th Annual BBQ Social. The Lakeland Center was packed with business people involved in the phosphate industry as everyone came together to mingle and discuss the future of this vital Florida community. COMANCO was the #2 ticket seller for the FPCEE BBQ with the help of A-1 Florida Sod, Agru America, Carlton Fields, CETCO, Conrad Yelvington Distributors, Ferrera Tooling, GSE, Hertz, Miller Mechanical, NORTRAX, Ovasco, Reed Transport Service, SSI Petroleum, Stingray Chevrolet, Tampa Bay Lightning and Wallace, Welch & Willingham.
Attendees warmly welcomed several candidates running for office. In order of appearance:

“Safety is our first priority” is COMANCO’s safety motto, and it’s especially true during our work at the Stauffer Chemical Company Superfund Cleanup in Tarpon Spring, FL. As seen above, our crews are taking the extra safety measure of stretching for a few minutes before starting work in the morning. This is a new technique for us and superintendent Jorge Barrantes reports it’s been very successful.
A lot of the industrial work we do is about creating safe places for disposal/storage of waste created as a by-product of necessary industries such as phosphate. At the Stauffer Chemical site we are helping protect the beautiful waters of the Anclote River, a popular recreational water body.

The Citrus County Central Landfill Phase III Expansion project began for COMANCO in July, and since then our teams have completed construction of the access road, sub-base limerock installation, water retention pond construction, earth cutting & filling of cell, trenching and construction of a stormwater ditch on east end of the cell. We’re in process of installing 8” solid HDPE pipe, GSE Bi-Planar and Nonwoven geotextile and Mirafi Biaxial Geogrid. Over the next few days liner deployment on the slopes will continue, followed by tie-in of the floor panels.

COMANCO is putting on the finishing touches at the Sumter County FL Correctional WWTP. Pictures above show the dirt and liner aspects of the pond construction, and today the sod is being rolled out, as well as all clean-up and finalizations steps. Thanks to Troy Watral and the great COMANCO team for their hard work on this project.
