Floating suction riser reaches installation point at Bartow job

The COMANCO crew “floated” up to meet the challenge during the installation of a heat exchanger at a Bartow FL job site. Since the pond is concave (shallow at the shore, deeper in the center) it was necessary to get the 42” HDPE pipe riser assembly out to the middle without coming in contact with the pond bottom, which could have damaged the assembly.

The solution? Plug the open ends of the flanges on the riser with buoys and turn the assembly 45 degrees on its side. COMANCO floated the suction riser assembly out to its proper location, then removed the buoys. The second shot shows the riser slowly and safely righting itself, after which the next steps could be taken to complete the installation.

You can see more pictures from earlier in the process as the new pipe for the heat exchanger was welded onto existing pipe, and as the liner was opened and closed in order to let the pipe into the pond.
