COMANCO’s Fleet Dept got additional welding training and safety procedure training this week. In every aspect of what we do, safety is our first priority!
Over fifty operators, superintendents, project managers and project engineers came into the Plant City office for Heavy Equipment Safety & Maintenance Training on Tuesday, Oct 19 2010. They were split into groups and rotated through classroom and hands-on learning focused on the proper care and maintenance for various machines as well as safety protocol and how to recover in the case of an emergency. The day was broken up by a catered BBQ luncheon for our hard-working employees.

“Safety is our first priority” is COMANCO’s safety motto, and it’s especially true during our work at the Stauffer Chemical Company Superfund Cleanup in Tarpon Spring, FL. As seen above, our crews are taking the extra safety measure of stretching for a few minutes before starting work in the morning. This is a new technique for us and superintendent Jorge Barrantes reports it’s been very successful.
A lot of the industrial work we do is about creating safe places for disposal/storage of waste created as a by-product of necessary industries such as phosphate. At the Stauffer Chemical site we are helping protect the beautiful waters of the Anclote River, a popular recreational water body.

CF Industries held a festive BBQ lunch last week on Friday, Sept 24 to celebrate a safety milestone on the 2 construction projects “Out Back”: the Gyp Stack Extension & the 3rd Stage Gyp Booster Pumps.
These 2 projects have a spotless Safety record attaining over 115,000 man-hours without an OSHA Recordable incident since their kick-off.
A big round of applause to our COMANCO crews on this job for their excellent and safe work and to all the other project team members working on this site.

The COMANCO crew “floated” up to meet the challenge during the installation of a heat exchanger at a Bartow FL job site. Since the pond is concave (shallow at the shore, deeper in the center) it was necessary to get the 42” HDPE pipe riser assembly out to the middle without coming in contact with the pond bottom, which could have damaged the assembly.
You can see more pictures from earlier in the process as the new pipe for the heat exchanger was welded onto existing pipe, and as the liner was opened and closed in order to let the pipe into the pond.

COMANCO onsite with Mid-State Machine & Fabrication installing 42” HDPE floating suction head and pipe at a Bartow FL job site. Notice that foreman Justino Macedo, a recent Water Safety graduate, and his crew are all wearing their PFDs in accordance with proper safety protocol. Safety is our first priority!
